11 chances to shop local this Christmas at Strandhill People’s Market

Up to 20,000 people are expected to visit the 3rd annual Christmas celebrations at Strandhill People’s Market in Co. Sligo from December 2nd – 22nd. Artisan food and craft producers from all over the west will descend on the village for the festive markets in Hangar 1 at Sligo Airport. Following on from last year’s success, the SPM team have added new dates and new attractions making it one of the biggest markets along the Wild Atlantic Way this Christmas.

The hugely popular night markets are making a return and will be opening from 6pm - 9pm on the First three Fridays in December while the day markets will run on the First three Saturdays and Sundays from 11- 4pm. Christmas week will see two night markets on Thursday 22nd and Fri 23rd of December. This will give people traveling home for the festive period a chance to soak up some Christmas magic and enjoy the company of loved ones in a unique setting.

With a focus on supporting Irish businesses, traders, craftspeople, producers and charities, the SPM Christmas markets will offer national and international visitors a chance to purchase high quality gifts and indulge in one of the many hearty food dishes on offer. The market has already proven to have had a significant economic impact on the surrounding area, creating employment, generating visitor spend and making a substantial contribution to the winter economy in Sligo.

“We’re building up to our busiest Christmas yet” said Kieran Mulrooney one of the founders of SPM. “We’ve increased our number of dates this year due to the demand from stallholders and customers alike. We are really excited by the variety of stalls taking part and we believe that SPM will meet all your shopping needs this Christmas.” he added.
